Older than the holiday houses
Stone axe heads near Hangklip suggest people lived in this landscape tens of thousands of years ago. Written notes about the area exist from the seventeenth century. The modern town is a thin layer on a very old coast.
Kleinmond grew as a coastal village and holiday place for the Western Cape. Tourism still matters. So does the quieter year, when the town returns to residents, churches, clubs, and the biosphere.
